Open Position - Communications Associate

TITLE: Communications Associate

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Position Reports to: Communications Director
Position Supervises: Unpaid Communications Team Members

POSITION PURPOSE:
Creates printed and digital media content to accurately convey the Vision and Mission of Good News Church. Assists Communications Director in weekly tasks pertaining to the communications and promotional needs of the organization.

RELATIONSHIPS:
  • Reports directly to the Communications Director.
  • Supervises unpaid Communications department members.
  • Interacts with supervisors of other departments to support the initiatives and activities of Good News Church.
  • Interacts with staff in other church departments to support the initiatives and activities of Good News Church.
  • Occasionally interacts with certain church vendors (printers, sign companies, video production) on an as needed basis.
  • Occasionally interacts with members of the Executive Team for strategic planning and direction.
  • Serves as a role model in, and promotes the faith to church members.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communications Administration (15%)
  • Follows communication systems and processes to assure information flows appropriately up, down, and across the organization.
  • Monitors and responds to department’s communication channels; providing prompt responses to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Works directly with church management software.
  • Attends relevant church and department meetings.
  • Continues to develop relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities to enhance performance on the job.
  • Provides Communications Director with weekly status updates on projects and progress made towards job deadlines.
  • Maintains and updates all related departmental subscriptions and accounts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Communications Content Creation (70%)
  • Responsible for recording, editing, and producing video content.
  • Creates graphic design elements for large and small-scale events and projects.
  • Responsible for church-related photography, or empowers volunteers to provide photography services for Sunday mornings and special events
  • Responsible for overseeing the livestream process.
  • Produces and/or orders signage, print materials, and merchandise.
  • Creates and schedules social media posts on various platforms as used by the Good News Church.
  • Upholds style guidelines that maintain a consistent voice and tone throughout all Communications output.
  • Develops resources and content for Communications team members to utilize in their work.
  • Updates website content using the church’s website content management system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Team Member Management (15%)
  • Trains the Communications team members through one-on-one and group meetings per department and Good News Church processes, procedures, and standards.
  • Recruits potential team members.
  • Develops Communications Team members throughout their volunteer service by encouraging them to improve the quality and efficiency of their work, and provides access to resources, training, mentoring, and opportunities for growth.
  • Promotes and sees to the leadership development of the Communications Team members.
  • Directs the work of Communications team members by scheduling volunteer positions, delegating tasks, and providing direction for the work assigned.
  • Monitors performance of Communications team members by providing consistent, regular feedback.
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION:  

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Writing, or related field, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:

1-3 years’ previous communications or related experience. Experience with Word processing software, Video Editing software, and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign, etc). Copywriting experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS / ABILITIES:

Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong attention to details. Ability to organize and prioritize work.  Excellent time management skills. Copywriting knowledge and skill.  Excellent PC skills with ability to learn and utilize required programs, software, and systems. Bible and doctrine knowledge.
